The best robot hoover can clean and mop without requiring your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

Some models also self-empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful best robotic mop and vacuum vacuums we have tested. They feature motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they employ smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. They also have a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on different flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s good robot vacuum that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. Also the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
