How to Replace an audi tt replacement key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can trigger spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However the code will not appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test as there are different pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The best method key for audi doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is functional, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or injectors aren't firing at all. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The Car Key Cover Audi will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I think I've ruled everything else out. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or from a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to know both the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If you are experiencing issues with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or an unfire when in gear. If you have any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and requires replacement. The good thing is that they are very affordable and easily accessible, especially if you're looking at the Bosch sensor, like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi a4 key replacement since it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the engine is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of transmission, above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost and also timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see around 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This is a common part across the audi keys replacement cost 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good parts could be found in wrecking yards.
