With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite loud that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live some more volume and some extra cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will please almost everyone.

The smart robot vacuums with mop makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
