The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its affordable price and high-end functions (such as dirt detectors) are a plus.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum and mop robot vacuum cleaners best hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross contamination. The flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuums with mop vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot mop that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or at night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's more expensive and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas are.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also grants access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
